Identify the subject and predicate in each of the following sentences.
Example:
My grandmother plays mah-jongg with my friends and me every Saturday.
The subject is "My grandmother".
The predicate is "plays mah-jongg with my friends and me every Saturday".
The sweet spot is between the word "grandmother" and "plays" because it's where the verb starts.
Subject of a Sentence
- Does NOT contain a verb
- Contains a noun or pronoun
- The verb talks about the subject
- find the berb
- ask who or what did the verb
- What is it about? (to be verbs)
Predicate of a Sentence
- Contains a verb
- Tells what the subject is or does
- The verb plus the words that follow
