Homework: Subject + Predicate

Handout Packet
Page 3 #6 to #15
Identify the subject and predicate in each of the following sentences.

Example:

My grandmother plays mah-jongg with my friends and me every Saturday.

The subject is "My grandmother".

The predicate is "plays mah-jongg with my friends and me every Saturday".

The sweet spot is between the word "grandmother" and "plays" because it's where the verb starts.

Subject of a Sentence
- Does NOT contain a verb
- Contains a noun or pronoun
- The verb talks about the subject
   - find the berb
   - ask who or what did the verb
   - What is it about?  (to be verbs)

Predicate of a Sentence
- Contains a verb
- Tells what the subject is or does
- The verb plus the words that follow
